Atosa AWF48D4 48" Four Drawer Worktop Freezer, 12.22 Cu. Ft., Stainless Steel

SKUAWF48D4 BrandAtosa

The Atosa AWF48D4 Worktop Freezer

The Atosa AWF48D4 is a 48 1/4" wide worktop freezer with four stainless steel drawers, a 3 1/2" backsplash and 12.22 cu. ft. of frozen storage, giving two cooks side by side their own pair of drawers under a shared 4 foot stainless prep top. It rides on standard 5 inch swivel stem casters for an overall height of 38 7/8", and it plugs into a standard 115 V outlet with a NEMA 5-15P cord, with a 1/4+ HP compressor drawing 4.8 amps.

Reinforced Stainless Steel Worktop with 3 1/2" Backsplash

The top is reinforced stainless steel with a 1" front overhang and a 3 1/2" backsplash along the rear edge, so you can push the unit against a wall, prep directly on it and keep spills and crumbs from dropping behind the cabinet. The exterior and interior are stainless as well, which means the whole unit wipes down with the same cloth at close and looks the part in an open kitchen. Recessed drawer handles keep the front flush so nothing catches an apron in a narrow aisle.

Four Drawers Organized Around 1/6 Size Pans

Each drawer opening is 12 3/8" high and the unit ships with 1/6 size pans installed, so portioned proteins, fries or dessert components go straight in and come out by the pan during service. Swap in 1/1, 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 size pans when your menu calls for a different layout. Because the four drawers, two per station, pull out toward the cook, the product you need is always in front of you rather than buried at the back of a shelf, and you never have to step away from the prep surface to reach it.

Electronic Controller Holds -8°F to 1°F

An electronic temperature controller keeps the cabinet between -8°F and 1°F, so frozen product stays hard even with the drawers opening every few minutes during a rush. You set the temperature once and read it at a glance without pulling a drawer, which keeps cold air inside. Atosa recommends a setpoint between -8°F and 0°F for the best food preservation, and the rear condenser grate is easy to reach for the regular cleaning that keeps the compressor breathing.

R290 Refrigerant, Magnetic Gaskets and 5 Inch Casters

The compressor runs on R290, a natural hydrocarbon refrigerant with very low global warming potential that also moves heat efficiently, so the cabinet recovers quickly after the drawers have been open. Magnetic gaskets seal each drawer the moment it closes, cutting frost build-up and compressor run time. Standard 5 inch swivel stem casters, braked and unbraked, put the worktop at a comfortable prep height and leave 6 5/8" of clearance under the cabinet for mopping; optional 1.2 inch, 1.5 inch and 2 inch low profile plate casters and 4 inch stem casters are available if you want the top lower.

    About Worktop Freezers

Worktop freezers give you both frozen storage and a prep surface in a single piece of equipment. The stainless steel top serves as a reliable cutting and assembly area, while the freezer below maintains product at food-safe temperatures. This setup helps restaurants, delis, food trucks, and caterers keep their prep stations organized and efficient, especially when space is limited and adding another piece of equipment would slow down the line.

You can find commercial worktop freezers in several widths to match your station layout. A 48 inch worktop freezer is a practical fit for most mid-size prep or cook lines, offering enough storage without taking up excess space. Smaller models are useful when you need frozen storage at a single station or have limited room to work with. Choosing a unit with drawers instead of doors lets line cooks grab frozen ingredients quickly, reducing the need to bend down or open a full door during busy service.

A worktop refrigerator freezer combo gives you both cold and frozen storage in one undercounter unit, which is especially useful when floor space is tight and you need both options at the same station. When choosing between a compact freezer for a small setup or a larger model for a high-volume kitchen, always size the unit based on your real storage requirements and the available space on your line.

    Common Types and Configurations

    • Standard Worktop Freezer: Solid door with a stainless steel prep surface above. Available in multiple widths to match your station layout and storage needs without sacrificing prep space.
    • Worktop Freezer with Drawers: Pull-out drawers replace the standard door, giving staff faster access to frozen items during service. Especially helpful on busy cook lines where quick access and minimal movement keep the workflow efficient.
    • Small Commercial Worktop Freezer: Designed for tight line setups or single stations where space is at a premium but you still need frozen storage within arm's reach.
    • Worktop Freezer 48 Inch: A mid-size solution that fits under two standard pieces of equipment or spans a full prep station. A common fit for full-service restaurant and deli kitchens that need reliable frozen storage at the line.
    • Worktop Refrigerator Freezer Combo: Combines both refrigerated and frozen sections in one undercounter cabinet. Practical for stations that require both types of storage but do not have room for two separate units.

What to Look at Before You Buy

    • Width and Line Fit: Always measure your available station space before selecting a worktop freezer. Make sure the unit fits your counter run and does not interfere with other equipment on the line.
    • Door vs. Drawer Configuration: Standard doors are more affordable and give you full access to the interior. Drawer models cost more but can speed up workflow on busy lines by letting staff access frozen product quickly and with less movement.
    • Top Surface Gauge: Choose a worktop freezer with a heavy-gauge, reinforced stainless steel top. This ensures the surface can handle equipment, cutting boards, and daily prep work without flexing or denting over time.
    • Temperature Range: Make sure the freezer can hold 0°F or below, even when fully loaded. If your kitchen tends to run hot, check the ambient temperature rating to confirm the unit will maintain safe frozen temperatures in your actual environment.
    • Compressor Location: Most worktop freezers have the compressor on either the left or right side. Check that there is enough clearance for airflow and that the compressor housing will not interfere with other equipment on your line.
    • Defrost System: Most commercial worktop freezers use automatic defrost cycles. Make sure the defrost system matches your kitchen's usage pattern and does not cause temperature swings that could compromise product quality.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is a worktop freezer?

A worktop freezer is a commercial undercounter freezer with a stainless steel top built for food prep. The freezer section keeps product safely frozen, while the top gives you a sturdy surface for cutting, assembling, or plating. These units are common in restaurants, delis, food trucks, and anywhere you need frozen storage and prep space in one footprint.

What is the difference between a worktop freezer and an undercounter freezer?

The key difference is the top surface. A worktop freezer has its own stainless steel top for active prep, cutting, and assembly. An undercounter freezer is made to fit under an existing counter, using the counter as its work surface. Both offer frozen storage, but a worktop freezer is a standalone unit with a built-in prep area, while an undercounter freezer blends into your existing counter setup.

What sizes do worktop freezers come in?

Worktop freezers typically come in 27, 36, 48, 60, and 72 inch widths. Choose the size based on your available counter space, the amount of frozen storage you need at the station, and whether you are pairing the unit with other undercounter equipment. Most models have a standard depth of about 30 inches, so width is the main factor to confirm before you order.
