The Hydra-Kool KGH-ES-40-S Open Air Merchandiser
The Hydra-Kool KGH-ES-40-S is a 41-inch self-contained open-front grab-and-go merchandiser with 23.3 cubic feet of refrigerated display capacity and a key-operated electric locking shutter. At just over three feet wide, it fits along checkout lanes, in break rooms, or next to a register where customers grab cold drinks, sandwiches, and packaged snacks on their way out. The case holds 36°F to 40°F on 115V hard-wired power at 26.3 amps.
Key-Operated Electric Locking Shutter for Overnight Security
Instead of a manual pull-down curtain, the KGH-ES series uses a motorized electric shutter that rolls down at the turn of a key. The shutter locks in place to seal the open front overnight, holding cold air inside the case and keeping product secure after hours. In a convenience store or hotel lobby where staff turnover is high, a keyed shutter removes the guesswork of whether the night curtain was pulled all the way down and seated properly. The motorized action also means no physical tugging on a curtain that can wear out or come off its track over time.
Forced Air Refrigeration with Digital Controller and Slide-Out Condensing Unit
Forced air refrigeration pushes cold air across every shelf from top to bottom, holding product between 36°F and 40°F without the warm pockets that open cases can develop when air circulation is weak. A digital controller manages temperature and defrost cycles automatically, and a digital thermometer on the case confirms conditions at a glance. The self-contained condensing unit slides out from the base for maintenance, so a tech can access coils and refrigerant connections without moving the entire case. A removable condensate evaporating pan makes routine cleaning straightforward. The system runs on R404a refrigerant with CFC-free injected foam insulation.
Height-Adjustable Tiltable Shelves with Product Stops and LED Lighting
Four adjustable shelves accommodate a range of product heights, from tall beverage bottles to short yogurt cups, and each shelf can be tilted forward to angle product toward the customer. Product stops on every shelf prevent containers from sliding off the front edge when shoppers reach in. LED lighting runs through the canopy and under each shelf, illuminating product from multiple angles so labels and packaging stay readable across the full depth of the case. LEDs run cooler than fluorescent tubes, which means less heat load inside the display cavity and less work for the compressor to maintain setpoint.
The KGH-ES-40-S measures 41" wide x 31.5" deep x 82.6" high and weighs 509 lbs. The exterior front panel is silver colored PVC coated steel, the interior is PVC coated steel in gray, and the end panels are foamed PVC coated steel in black. The kick plate is PVC coated dark gray anthracite. The unit is hard-wired (no plug). Optional upgrades include stainless steel interior and exterior panels, solid or full-view end panels, additional shelves, partition dividers, price tag molding, and casters that add 4-3/8" to the overall height. Stainless steel adjustable legs (5-1/8" to 7-5/8") are also available.
