The Hydra-Kool KGL-IS-80-S Island Open Air Merchandiser
The Hydra-Kool KGL-IS-80-S is a 78-inch low profile grab-and-go island combination merchandiser built from three joined units: two KGL-OF-40 cases and one KGL-OF-70 case. That three-unit layout gives you an island display with 39 cubic feet of front-loading capacity, wide enough to anchor a deli or prepared foods section while fitting into floor plans where a larger island would crowd the aisle. Each unit carries its own self-contained compressor, so if one needs service the others keep running.
Forced Air Cooling with Pull-Down Night Curtain
Each component unit in the island runs its own forced air refrigeration system, holding product between 36 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperature and defrost cycles are managed by a digital controller with a digital thermometer readout, so you can verify conditions at a glance without opening anything up. On self-contained models, the condensing unit slides out for service access, and a removable condensate evaporating pan makes routine cleaning straightforward.
When the store closes, a pull-down night curtain seals the open front of each unit. That curtain cuts refrigeration load overnight and helps the compressors cycle less frequently, which saves energy and reduces wear. The cases are engineered to operate in environments up to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 55 percent relative humidity, and they use R452a refrigerant.
Adjustable Shelving with LED Lighting
Height-adjustable shelves can be tilted to angle products toward customers, and built-in product stops keep items from sliding off the edge. LED strips run in the canopy and under every shelf, lighting merchandise from above and below so colors stay true and labels are easy to read. Because LEDs generate less heat than fluorescent tubes, they add minimal thermal load to the display cavity.
The case interior is PVC-coated steel in gray, which resists staining and wipes down quickly between restocks. Foamed polystyrene black end panels and tempered side glass give the island a clean, finished look from every angle, while the silver PVC-coated steel front panel ties the aesthetic together. A black steel kick plate protects the base from cart bumps and foot traffic.
The KGL-IS-80-S measures 78 inches wide by 76.3 inches deep by 59 inches high. It ships as three crated packages: two crates at 43.8 by 34.5 by 67.8 inches (507 lbs crated, 357 lbs uncrated each) for the KGL-OF-40 units, and one crate at 87 by 34.5 by 67.8 inches (1,015 lbs crated, 714 lbs uncrated) for the KGL-OF-70 unit. All connections are hard-wired at 115/220 volts. The two smaller units each draw 5/8 HP at 8.9 FLA and 17 total amps, while the larger unit draws 1-1/4 HP at 9.2 FLA and 14.1 total amps. Standard mounting uses leveling feet, with optional adjustable legs or casters available. Stainless steel legs adjust from 5-1/8 to 7-5/8 inches, and casters add 4-3/8 inches to the overall height.
