The Omcan 46517 Grease Trap
This Omcan grease trap prevents grease from entering the building plumbing system, septic fields, and wastewater facilities. It is sized at 40 pounds of grease capacity with a 20 gallon per minute flow rating, and it serves cooking or prep sinks, pot sinks, or a commercial dishwasher in commercial food service operations. Plan the rough-in before ordering: the inlet and outlet are 3 inch threaded connections, the unit can sit on the floor, sit partially recessed, or recess flush with the floor, and it should be installed as close as possible to the fixture it serves. The lid measures 24 x 19 inches over a 22.5 x 17.16 inch body, and the unit stands 13 inches tall, so check clearance under or beside the sink it will serve.
40-Pound Grease Capacity at 20 GPM
The trap is rated for 40 pounds of grease and a flow of 20 gallons per minute. That rating assumes a vented flow control with a properly sized orifice, which comes with the unit, installed as close as possible under the fixture, with its vent piped higher than the water source or to the building vent system; without it, grease can bypass the trap. Solids belong in a sink strainer or solids interceptor upstream, not in the grease trap.
11-Gauge Cold Rolled Steel with Baked Epoxy Coating
The tank is made from 11-gauge cold rolled steel finished in an oven-cured, acid-resistant baked gray epoxy coating, and it is built to last through daily commercial use.
3 Inch Threaded Inlet and Outlet
Both ports are 3 inch threaded connections, projecting 2-1/2 inches beyond the body at each end and centered on the body width. Set the inlet below the horizontal drain piping coming from the fixture, make the connections with no-hub couplings, fit the cleanout plug over the outlet, and run the outlet to the sanitary drain in pipe at least as large as the inlet, vented so the trap is not siphoned. A cleanout tee ahead of the flow control makes it easy to clear the orifice.
Internal Baffles and Outlet Chamber
Inside the tank, internal baffle plates divide the flow path, and a separate outlet chamber at the discharge end carries its own cleanout plug so it can be sprayed out during cleaning. The cover lifts off by its center handle, which is secured with a 3/8 inch Allen bolt.
Recess Mount or Floor Mount Installation
Set the trap directly on the floor beside the fixture it serves, partially recess it, or recess it so the top sits flush with the floor. Either way, leave access above the cover for removal and cleaning. Check the trap daily at first until the grease layer reaches 2 to 3 inches, then clean it at that interval: remove the center 3/8 inch Allen bolt lift handle assembly and the cover, clear the remaining grease, flush with water, spray out the outlet chamber through its cleanout plug, and inspect the cover gasket before refitting the cover.
